DANIELLE (BOURGETTE) MCDONOUGH
MA SPORT & EXERCISE PSYCHOLOGY

ATHLETE MINDSET COACH:
HELPING ATHLETES BUILD THE CONFIDENCE THEY NEED TO CONSISTENTLY PERFORM TO THEIR FULL POTENTIAL.

I am a former Division I and Professional athlete. I received my B.A. in Sociology from Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island while on a full athletic scholarship for ice hockey. While at PC, I helped lead the team to four consecutive league championships, made our inaugural debut in the NCAA tournament, and captained the team for the 2004-2005 season. Upon graduating I moved up to Ontario, Canada where I played professionally in the NHWL for two years. After playing there I moved overseas to Lugano, Switzerland where I again played professionally in the European Hockey league for two years.

Returning home to Southern CA in the Spring of 2009, I obtained a Masters Degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology, and began my own business in the winter of 2010, coaching individuals on the mental side of performance and exercise. I have coached numerous athletes who have gone on to receive their own scholarships, helped teams unite and go on to win championships, as well as helped individuals regain control of their life through fitness/exercise routines and life coaching. Athletics, sport, and fitness are 20% physical and 80% mental and I firmly believe that once we are able to conquer the mental barriers we encounter, true greatness can be achieved - both in sport and in life.

In addition to the mental coaching, I also have 20+ years of experience coaching hockey on an individual level, in a team setting, as well as in a camp-like setting. I am currently co-coaching the Lady Ducks 16AAA team. Hockey is one of my greatest joys in life and it is a passion of mine to be able to coach others in the sport and help them to succeed both on a mental and physical level.

On a personal note, I still play hockey to this day, in a men's league. I met my husband playing, we settled in Yorba Linda, CA, and we have two kids who we hope will love hockey as much as we do!

About Sport Psychology

  • Mental preparation and training accounts for 80-90% of athletic success in competition.
  • Sport psychology is a specialization focused on helping athletes and teams maximize their performances through the development of effective mental skills.
  • Athletes who learning and implement these mental skills are not only be able to elevate their game to the next level, but they will also be able to remain at that level on a more consistent basis.
  • Research has demonstrated that the inclusion of a systematic mental skills program with college and professional teams greatly increases the potential for success.
  • Sport psychology consultants provide a valuable resource for the psychological well-being of the student-athlete.
  • Within the past ten years there has been a notable increase of elite colleges utilizing sport psychology consultants. As the talent level of the Division I athletes spreads across many teams, the deciding factor for athletic achievement becomes more mental than physical.
